Buy from Turkey: wholesale supply for European buyers

Turkey is a large producer of steel, polymers, chemicals and coatings and sits close to European markets. SMETRD sources these goods from Turkish producers for B2B buyers who want a single supplier and a single transport arrangement, with offers made per order and no fixed price list.

The trading activity is separate from the freight service, but both can be combined into one offer delivered to your address.

How to buy from Turkey: the process

The buyer sends an enquiry with product, quantity, specification and destination. SMETRD checks availability with producers and returns an offer. After agreement on price, quantity, Incoterm and payment terms, the order is confirmed in writing, goods are produced or released, inspected if required and shipped with the necessary documents.

Iron and steel products from Turkey

SMETRD trades iron and steel products by category: coils, sheets and plates, pipes and tubes, and sections or profiles. Turkey has a large steel industry, supplying both flat and long products to Europe. Specific grades, thicknesses and sizes are quoted after you send your specification and required standard.

Only product categories are shown on this page. Grades, tolerances and availability are confirmed per enquiry because they change with producer programmes.

Hot rolled coil and steel coils

Hot rolled coil (HRC) is steel strip rolled at high temperature and wound into coils, used by pipe makers, constructors and re-rollers. Buyers specify thickness, width, steel grade and coil weight. Coils travel by sea in containers or on break-bulk vessels, or by truck on flatbed or coil-trough trailers.

Request mill test certificates and confirm the origin of the steel, since EU trade rules can depend on where the steel was melted and poured.

Steel sheet, plate and galvanized products

Sheet and plate cover hot rolled, cold rolled and coated products such as galvanized sheet used in construction, roofing and appliances. Buyers define thickness, width, length, coating mass and surface finish. Packing protects against moisture, with edge protection and strapping for road or sea transport.

Coating, tolerance and mechanical property requirements should be listed in the enquiry, along with the standard that applies.

Steel pipes, tubes and profiles

Pipes, tubes and profiles include structural hollow sections, welded and seamless pipes and open sections. Typical enquiry data are outside dimension, wall thickness, length, steel grade and the product standard. Bundles are packed for stability, and lengths are matched to the vehicle or container used.

Cutting to length, end finishing and surface treatment can be requested for larger orders.

EU measures on steel imports

Steel imported into the EU can be subject to safeguard measures, quotas, tariff-rate rules and origin requirements such as melt-and-pour. Which rules apply depends on the product's tariff code and current regulation. Always check the current measures before agreeing a price and delivery term.

SMETRD does not give legal advice. Your customs agent should confirm the classification and the applicable measure for each steel product.

Plastic raw materials: PP, PE and PVC

Plastic raw materials from Turkey include polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE) in grades such as HDPE, LDPE and LLDPE, and PVC resin. They are sold as granules or powder for injection, extrusion, film blowing and pipe production. Grade, melt flow index, density and application guide the choice.

Data sheets and typical property tables are exchanged during the offer stage, and samples can be arranged for approval.

Recycled plastic granules

Recycled granules are made from processed plastic waste and sold in grades for lower-spec injection moulding, film and pipe uses. Quality depends on feedstock, colour, contamination and melt behaviour. Buyers should ask for a specification and a sample before a trial order.

Cross-border shipments of plastic waste are regulated. Granules that meet product specifications are treated differently from waste, so documentation matters.

Packing and transport of plastic raw materials

Plastic granules are shipped in 25 kg bags on pallets, in big bags of around one tonne or in bulk liners inside containers. Dry storage is essential, because moisture and dust reduce quality. Full truckloads and 20 ft or 40 ft containers are the common shipment sizes for wholesale orders.

Chemicals: industrial and bulk

SMETRD supplies industrial chemicals in bulk quantities, packed in drums, IBCs or tanks, for processing industries. Typical enquiry data are product name, CAS number, purity, packaging and annual volume. Many chemicals are regulated, so the supplier must provide a safety data sheet and the identification needed for the destination.

Offers cover only products that can be supplied with full documentation. Restricted substances are not traded.

REACH, CLP and safety data sheets

Chemicals sold into the EU must comply with REACH registration where applicable, CLP classification and labelling, and be accompanied by a safety data sheet in the language of the receiving country. The importer or an only representative usually carries the registration duty, so confirm the roles in the contract.

Check whether the supplier's substance is registered by an EU entity before you place the order. Without registration the goods may not be placed on the market.

ADR transport of dangerous chemicals

Dangerous chemicals move by road under ADR, which regulates classification, UN number, packaging, labelling, vehicle equipment and driver training. Only approved carriers can take such loads. The shipper must provide the transport document with the correct description and the safety information before booking.

Limited-quantity and excepted-quantity rules allow simplified transport for small packages, but they must be applied exactly.

ADR and special loads by road

Paint and coatings in bulk

Wholesale paint and coatings from Turkey include decorative paints, industrial coatings, primers, varnishes and wood finishes, in cans, pails and drums. Buyers state the type, finish, colour system, pack size and volume. Own-label supply and tinting systems can be discussed on request for larger programmes.

Colour matching and shelf life should be agreed in writing, with batch certificates for each delivery.

VOC limits and product compliance for paint

Paint sold in the EU must respect VOC limits under the Decorative Paints Directive and carry the correct labelling, plus CLP and a safety data sheet. Industrial coatings follow separate rules. Request the VOC content, classification and any technical data sheets before you commit to an order.

Many paints are flammable liquids and travel as dangerous goods, so freight options depend on flash point and packaging.

Certificates: EN 10204 3.1, SDS and certificates of analysis

An EN 10204 3.1 certificate is a mill test certificate issued by the producer's authorised inspector for steel. Chemicals and paint come with a safety data sheet and often a certificate of analysis for the batch. Origin and movement certificates such as A.TR or EUR.1 are separate from product certificates.

Minimum order quantity and quotation

Minimum order quantities depend on the producer and the product, and are stated in each offer. Steel and polymers are generally sold by the tonne or by full truck or container, chemicals and paint by pallet or drum. Prices are given on request, not published, because market prices change continuously.

Offers specify quantity, specification, packing, Incoterm, validity period and payment terms.

Quality inspection and sampling

Buyers can ask for pre-shipment inspection by an independent inspector, sampling from the production lot or a witness test at the producer. Inspection scope, standard and cost are agreed before the order. Samples are useful to approve a polymer grade, chemical specification or paint finish before a larger purchase.

Document the acceptance criteria in the contract so that disputes are decided against clear measurable standards.

Freight and Incoterms for traded goods

Goods are offered under terms such as FCA Istanbul, CPT, DAP or DDP, depending on whether the buyer wants to organise the transport. Combining goods and freight in one offer keeps the cost transparent and reduces the risk of document mismatches between the invoice and the transport papers.
